I wanted my daughter to experience some simple, safe riding. I'd looked at a few different options, and we already had a trailer with suspension, but that takes up tons of room in the car and on any dirt or sandy trail, theres risk of flicking it up from the rear wheel, so we have to close the netting around her which is somewhat constraining. Plus, she's behind, so I can't engage. While a little pricey, took a chance on the mac ride - good seat, riding position. easy to install and remove quickly, and seemed like a well thought through design. My bike has a carbon fibre frame so didn't want anything that squeezed or deformed that too.
First ride was on old railway trails so nothing too crazy - we ended up doing 14 miles! Daughter was quite excited and enjoyed it, though the last 2 miles were a little tough for such a long ride. The issue wasn't the seat but getting too cool. While I'm pumping the pedals, she's sitting still, so keep that in mind as its easy to forget the breeze riding along at 10 mph that can cool a toddler. The result ? really good - she loved it. Easy to ride, slightly tricky starting/stopping (seat dropper helped). No issues peddling and fun! More rides planned. I used some foam on the center of my handle bars for her to grip vs hangng onto metal that could get hot in the sun.
our daughter doesn't like to ride her bike, but she *loves* the macride. its an excellent way for us to go biking together, and i don't have to turn around to have a conversation with her while moving: we can both see the same things. its real quick and easy to take off when i want to ride without it. I also appreciate that it fits her longer legs and the straps keep her feet stable over bumps. the spare stem adapter was great so my wife or me can throw the macride on either of our bikes.
Father son time is better than ever now on the trails together!
We love this seat! It’s so easy and my son LOVES riding on it!! Worth the money for sure!
The Mac Ride has been a life enhancer and joy creator for our family. We use it to commute to/from daycare and my kid's two homes, and for leisurely cruises on the weekend. My 3.5-year old will regularly shout "I'm flying, Mama!" and it fills my heart to see her so confident on a bike. The close proximity that the seat creates let's us connect after time apart, and chat easily despite wind or traffic noise. And because of the extra spacer provided (which was straightforward to install, by the way, thanks to the video offered), my kiddo gets to experience something similar with her other parent. We'll be using it as long as we can, and passing the joy on when she outgrows it.
